Metal-Free Ceramic Dental Implants
Whenever a patient loses a tooth or has one extracted, the most common follow-up question is how to replace it.
For years, our answer was to restore the proper form and function with either fixed bridgework or a removable partial. A third option – the titanium dental implants that were invented about 60 years ago – was of concern to us as biological dentists.
Although metal implants do provide a strong base to support a restoration or prosthetic, we always want to create a healthier oral environment biocompatibly, without the use of metal. Negative symptoms such as metal allergies, galvanic current interferences, and other problems have been observed in patients who have had titanium implants surgically placed.
Today, however, we have an excellent alternative: the ceramic material known as zirconia.
Zirconia implants are metal free and have been approved for use in dentistry in the United States since 2007. It took some time to find the right system, but with ceramic implants from Swiss Dental Solutions, we are finally confident that we can provide stronger, healthier, and more biocompatible prosthetics to our patients needing to replace missing teeth.

7 Reasons to Choose Zirconia Implants
- Biocompatibility: Zirconia implants are hypoallergenic and biocompatible, making them suitable for patients with metal sensitivities.
- Long-Term Success: Studies have shown that zirconia implants integrate better with bone than titanium, offering a stable foundation for prosthetic teeth.
- Strength & Durability: Zirconia is known for its exceptional strength and resilience, providing long-lasting support for your new teeth.
- Soft Tissue Integration: Zirconia’s surface properties and biocompatibility contribute to improved soft tissue response, promoting healthier gums and a lower risk of peri-implantitis compared to titanium implants.
- Corrosion Resistance: Unlike titanium implants, which can corrode and release harmful particles and metal into the body, zirconia implants are resistant to corrosion.
- Plaque Resistance: Plaque and biofilms are less prone to cling to zirconia implants than to titanium implants.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The white color of zirconia closely resembles natural teeth, ensuring a seamless blend with your smile.
Of course, each tooth replacement option has its pros and cons. You must weigh these with your dentist to decide which is best for you and your overall health. Call us now to schedule a consultation with us to see if zirconia dental implants are the right choice for you.

Case Closed? About Yet Another New Fluoridation Study
They should? We’re not so sure about that. Now, to be fair, Dr. Bicuspid didn’t come up with that message on its own. It came from the authors of a new study in JADA which looked at whether drinking fluoridated water leads to a lower risk of cavities for kids...
Tooth/Body Flashback: Hydroxyapatite
Recently seen in the wild: Some dentists say, anyway. We don’t. As a biological practice, we put a premium on biocompatibility and recognize that fluoride’s risks outweigh any benefits. In our practice, prevention starts with nutrition. A healthy, nutrient-dense...
