With hundreds of posts over the 15 years we’ve been blogging, the Tooth/Body Blog is more than just a collection of dental insights and updates. It’s a living chronicle of our practice’s journey and the ever-deepening understanding of the relationship between oral and whole body health. It not only documents our story but the larger transformations taking place in how people think about oral health care.
As 2024 draws to a close, it only feels right to look back not just on the year that’s been but on how we’ve shared that journey with you.
They say you can learn a lot about a year by looking at how it began, so in that spirit, we thought we’d try something a little different with our year-end reflection: revisiting 2024 through the first sentences of each month’s first post. We think that these sentences, written in the moment, nicely capture how the year unfolded, as well as give a good sense of what our practice is all about and the kind of dental care we provide to patients like you.
So without further ado…
- January: There are lots of reasons why folks seek out a biological dental practice like ours.
- February: Your body has a natural ability to heal.
- March: Even though more dentists have moved away from filling teeth with mercury amalgam, the dental industry still uses up to 322 metric tons of dental mercury every year.
- April: If a tooth’s viability is compromised by deep decay, advanced gum disease, or trauma, you may find yourself faced with the decision to extract it; likewise, if you have a problem root canal tooth.
- May: Now that dental amalgam has been banned in Europe, Consumers for Dental Choice reports that they will now “shift gears to the one holdout in Europe: the United Kingdom, which ‘Brexited’ the European Union a few years ago.”
- June: Breast milk provides optimal nutrition for infants.
- July: You probably know something about the antimicrobial power of dental ozone, a supercharged form of oxygen that’s able to kill off bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
- August: The link between gum disease and systemic health is a mouth/body connection that’s now familiar to dental professionals, conventional and biological alike.
- September: We’ve said it before, but we believe it’s worth saying again: One of the most fulfilling aspects of practicing biological dentistry is witnessing the life-changing impact it has on our patients’ overall health and well-being.
- October: The long, long wait for a ruling in the EPA fluoridation trial finally ended last week.
- November: When it comes to fluoride, the hits just keep on coming!
- December: Although the use of mercury amalgam to fill teeth has declined dramatically in recent years and even more countries are banning the material outright, amalgam still has its defenders.
From all of us here at Rehme Dental Care, happy holidays! And thank you for taking this journey with us. Whether you’re currently a patient, thinking about becoming one, or just seeking a deeper understanding of tooth/body, mouth/body health, we’re glad you’re a part of it!
